Music Director at Aberdeen City Music School (ACMS) - Dyce Academy

An exciting and unique opportunity has become available at Aberdeen City Music School to lead this national specialist school of music in its next steps of major development. This highly successful and well-established provision attracts talented and gifted young musicians aged 12-18 from all over Scotland. These young people are given a superb opportunity to follow a highly specialised music curriculum within a comprehensive school. A purpose-built residence provides accommodation for 44 young people in the grounds of Dyce Academy.

Aberdeen City itself is a lively and prosperous city situated in the North-east of Scotland. It is a city with a diverse culture and heritage of which it is justifiably proud. As Music Course Director, the successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to the Education, Cultural and Sport cultural strategies for Aberdeen City as well as promoting the role of the music school to a national audience.

Leading and managing a wide range of professional musicians the post holder will develop opportunities for young musicians across the city and nationally to benefit from and contribute to the life and work of Dyce Academy.

ACMS is a national music school based at Dyce Academy in Aberdeen. The aim of the music school is to allow talented musicians to continue their general education whilst receiving expert tuition and additional time for music study.

All ACMS pupils are fully integrated into the general curricular and social life of the school. Since the centre opened in 2001, we have established ourselves as a centre of excellence for music in Scotland. We cater for performers of all music genres and encourage pupils to develop a broad range of musical skills based around performance.

Our facilities are tailor made and include first class boarding accommodation, practice rooms, ensemble rooms, recording facilities and a performance space. There is a large music library with over 6000 CDs and pieces of music. Pupils may board at the state of the art boarding facility on site, or if they live within a 3-mile radius, travel in on a daily basis.

At ACMS we provide regular opportunities for solo, chamber, jazz, orchestral, choral and Scottish traditional work.
