What kind of outreach activities has Aberdeen City Music School been involved in?
Our community work in Aberdeen (a city made up of people from all backgrounds including the socially disadvantaged, those with disability and from deprived areas) has been to infect a sense of fun, instil confidence and create opportunity for all. We have employed artists to bring people together. For instance, we have set up instrumental sessions on a "come and try" basis in a variety of schools in areas such as Kincorth, Torry and Northfield, staged major cross-curricular events involving Peacock Visual Arts and Aberdeen City Moves staged at the Art Gallery. We have set up a programme in Torry taking members of The Scottish Ensemble to enthuse and inspire young people and staged a primary school project called “The Brotherhood of Man” using staff from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Also we have taken groups of young musicians to play at old peoples homes and welcomed overseas students at Robert Gordon University with traditional music (a multi cultural approach).
Have you worked in partnership with outside providers?
We have set up partnerships, thus bringing services together. For example:
Aberdeen City Music School
